TV Premiere in the UK

We've just heard that BBC Scotland will screen Time Trial on Saturday 19th September at 9pm! Set your DVRs! It's our UK TV Premiere. We hope you join us.

Just as the Tour de France enters a decisive uphill Time Trial stage at La Planche-des-Belles-Filles! And as we all know, the Time Trial was David's speciality and the Tour de France the race that inspired him, so it couldn't be a better time to release the film to the wider UK public.

You can find BBC Scotland on 115 on Freeview, YouView or SKY, 106 on Freesat and 108 on Virgin Media.
Outside of Scotland (within the UK) you can find it on:
Sky
BBC Scotland HD/SD 457*
*Sky customers who have an HD receiver can also find the channel in SD at 876
Freesat
BBC Scotland HD/SD: 108*
*Freesat customers who have an HD receiver can also find the channel in SD at 174
Virgin Media
BBC Scotland HD: 162
FreeView/YouView customers in the rest of the UK (outside Scotland) can access the channel via BBC iPlayer

The film will screen thereafter on iPlayer for around a month.

If you watch the film, please tell us and tag us on Twitter @Timetrialfilm and let's get more people watching it.

If you are not in the UK, you or your friends can watch the film in many places online worldwide.

7 years ago - Giro d'Italia 2013

Towards the end of Giro d'Italia 2013 we went to the Dolomites to test the shooting apparatus and shoot some footage to convince funders of the idea and concept of Time Trial, then provisionally called "David Millar Project"

Once we arrived in Italy, we packed ourselves into two vans: myself, producer Sonja, cinematographer, sound recordist, 2nd unit camera, fixer / driver, motorbike pilot, two Steadicam operators and all of the camera, kit and lenses that we'd lugged over, thanks to Progressive Broadcast. We met up with the grip technician and motorbike pilot at the first Autogrill we could find. Now we were a team of ten! That's a lot for any documentary.

Who Made Time Trial? - Part 3

As we are heading towards the final weekend of the Tour de France and the film is out in the world for most to see, we reflect on those folks who helped make TIME TRIAL what it is.

The making of TIME TRIAL relied on a huge collaboration between many super talented, passionate and dedicated people. I'd like to take some time to highlight their incredible work!

This crew were critical in creating and supporting my vision from early on. With Time Trial we pioneered some exciting new techniques in the filming of bike racing and without our intrepid crew we would never have been able to pull off our ambitious ideas.

Some of my favourite days making the film were during the latter stages, once we knew what the film was going to look like and we could begin to focus on what it's going to sound like! The worry and graft of trying to make a film work was behind us and we began to thoroughly enjoy the process again.

Tour de France... a time to reminisce

Wow... this year's TOUR DE FRANCE takes TIME TRIAL director Finlay Pretsell on a journey down memory lane. Here are some reflections on working with David & his final race back in 2014!

Time Trial - The year that was 2018

Just over a year ago we learned that TIME TRIAL would have its World Premiere in competition at the world's largest documentary film festival, IDFA in Amsterdam at the vast 1500 seat Royal Theatre Carré. An early preview in The Guardian called TIME TRIAL "a rage against the fading light" and while the complex production was certainly an experience for us, we hoped that the result of all the hard work would be something very special and looked forward to sharing it with an audience at last!

Who Made Time Trial? - Part 2

The making of TIME TRIAL relied on a huge collaboration between many super talented, passionate and dedicated people. I'd like to take some time to highlight their incredible work over the next few weeks, running up to our UK cinema release on the 29th of June. Hint hint ... get your tickets here!

Creating a compelling story from hours and hours (... and hours) of race footage is more challenging than you might imagine! No matter how much planning and preparation you do during pre-production, the edit suite is where the film really comes alive. Thanks to our gifted Editors we think we've created something special. Pro-racer Laurens ten Dam recently said that "if you want to know how it works in the peloton, you've got to watch this movie", well you heard the man!
