Capture David – FAQ

What are you looking for around the Commonwealth Games?

Answer

David has always been hugely proud of hailing from Scotland, and the home support from Glasgow will be something to behold. We want the fan's point of view here – we'll be giving out some cameras (or you can bring your own), and you can decide what experience you want to share. The Millar superfan conducting a mock interview with her boyfriend, or the Tartan army drinking and cavorting at the side of the road, shouting on the sole Scot with a chance of winning the race.

We want as much material as possible, both for the film and as a resource that goes beyond. We'll share your best shots on the web and consider them for inclusion in the final film. David will see these, too.

We will credit your work properly at all times and contact you directly when it comes to using your clip for our film.

How about that image I took five years ago?

Answer

We are also interested in older material from any part of David's career. Let us know where and when it was taken so we know the context, and why you've chosen it. Submit here.

How can I get a camera for Glasgow?

Answer

Don't have a camera of your own that you'd like to use? We'll distribute a limited number of Super 8 cameras, with 3-minute film rolls. Let us know if you're interested in using one of these.

We also have a limited number of Replay XD mini cams which you can borrow. The three best contributions will win a Replay camera each.

Go to our GET INVOLVED form, select the 'Stagiaire' option, and tell us about your ideas!

What formats can I submit?

Answer

We are looking for video and audio recordings, Super-8 films and photos.

The following file types can be uploaded directly through our form, as long as they are smaller than 150MB: .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .pdf, .zip, .rar, .png, .tiff, .bmp, .psd, .mp3, .mpeg4, .wmv, .avi, .flv, .mov, .3gp

If you can't upload these formats or if your file is too large, please use the submission form without the upload and we'll be in touch to arrange transfer.

Can I submit someone else's material?

Answer

Only if they have instructed you to upload it on their behalf. The submission must be made in the name of the person owning the image or the recording.

Can you get me media accreditation to a race?

Answer

No. The whole idea is to capture the fan's point of view here!

What happens to my submission?

Answer

We will review your submission internally and let you know if we're going to use it for social media or our website at this point.

The actual edit of our feature-length film hasn't started yet, so decisions on inclusion in the final film will be made much later this year. If your footage is on the short list for that, we will get in touch to discuss things further.

Will David Millar see my submission?

Answer

We will send David the best shots so he can personally choose and share some himself.

So what's in it for me?

Answer

You'll take an active part in our film-making process and all your contributions will be credited to you at all times.

You'll also be contributing to some fan memento from David's final races for him to keep.

There'll be a chance to win one of three Replay cameras. (Naturally, anybody working for Cycling Films or SDI Productions is excluded from this.)

The best submissions will be considered for the final film. We will discuss the details directly with you when you are on the short list. You have the chance to be part of a film première near you.

Is there a deadline?

Answer

There is no strict cut-off point for submitting images or recordings at this point.

However, it would be great to have your submissions before 30 September 2014 though – and you must submit by that date if you want to be considered for one of the three Replay cameras.

Any advice on how to film?

Answer

Yes. Finlay has just listed his pointers on how to film useful footage for us here: DAVIDMILLARFILM/CAPTURE_GUIDELINES
